Work Centers & Machine Centers
The catalog of AFTEC work-center codes (
OPERATION.WKCEN), compiled live from MRP-PROD (374 operation records), cross-referenced with declared weekly capacity (wc-capacity.csv) and live WIP (WIPROUTE.LINE incomplete ops via/api/routing/wiproute-lines/batch). Compiled 2026-08-17. WIP numbers are a snapshot; the structure is durable.Why this page exists: the AFTEC “work center” field conflates three different things — individual machines, machine groups, and whole departments — and the Business Central migration needs them disentangled (BC models Work Centers → Machine Centers as a real hierarchy; see Route Manager BC assessment, plan §8.4 step 3, and PSI.All issue #222).

The capacity file’s rows “106” (400 h/wk) and “108” (200 h/wk) are department-level capacities, not work centers — there is no WC 106/108 in the operation catalog.

Routed hours here are ~0 by design (subcontract ops carry no internal standard). A queue at 1000 means parts sitting at vendors — a purchasing-chase signal, not shop-floor work. The plant’s heaviest routing artery runs 1000 → 85 (laser-cut out, back to bend).

Findings that matter for the BC work-center design
- The capacity file is OPERATION-grain, not work-center-grain (corrected 2026-08-17) —
the “ghost” capacity columns (11, 12, 31, 41, 42, 61, 71, 86) are operation numbers,
i.e. individual machines: 12 = VF4-APC, 31 = HS4R, 41 = SL30-BB, 42 = MAZAK, 61 = PROTO
INSPECT, 71 = FLOOR WELDING, 86 = BEND.
wc-capacity.csvdeclares weekly capacity per machine/operation for the shop — except its “106”/“108” columns, which are department-grain (no such ops exist). Mixed grain in one file; BC capacity should land on Machine Centers (shop) and Work Centers (assembly) accordingly. - Operations ARE the machines in the shop — each work center anchors a numeric block and its operations name the physical machines: WC 40 = ops 40 ST30 / 41 SL30-BB / 42 MAZAK; WC 30 = ops 30 EC-1600ZT / 31 HS4R / 35 12HC; WC 70 = ops 70 bench / 71 floor welding. BC mapping: AFTEC WC → BC Work Center, AFTEC shop operation → BC Machine Center. In assembly the semantics invert: WC 110’s ops (110 assembly, 115 laser align, 120 painting, 125 paint prep, 130 shipping, 140 inspect) are phases of work at one station → BC Standard Tasks on routing lines, not machine centers.
- WC 1000 must be split — 32 vendor operations under one code becomes BC subcontracting work centers (likely per vendor-process). The Route Manager assessment already flags subcontracting as a native-BC improvement.
- Department-level capacity rows (106/108) need a home: BC capacity belongs on the work/machine center, not the department.
- The indirect codes (512–518 etc.) must not become BC work centers — they map to labor/absence categories (the project-charged-labor study’s BC crosswalk covers this territory for engineering ops).
Proposed BC design (DCC decision, 2026-08-17)
“Create a work center for each machine-type area — vertical mill, horizontal mill, CNC lathe, Mazak lathe, bench welding, cabinet welding, brake press, waterjet — and machine centers under that for each individual machine (when appropriate).”

Build-out status (2026-08-17)
The design is being built into the BC DEV environment (deliberately not sandbox/Production):

PSI.Dispatch.APIv1.6.0.0 deployed to DEV (PSI-BC PR #25, merged): work-center creation with auto-bootstrapped scheduling foundation (UoM HOURS, work shift, Mon–Fri shop calendar PSI, WC group PSI), the newmachineCentersAPI page, and a DEV-guarded legacy-capacity purge (all routings + the 91 all-numeric DMT work centers; refuses outside the environment named DEV; blocked while production orders exist; delete rights in a separately-assignable permission set). - ✅ DEV inventoried: 91 legacy WCs, 25 legacy MCs, ~151k routings (early experimental load), 11 PSIDEMO test production orders, 425k items (items are NOT purged).
- ⬜ Execute the build-out: run
PSI-BC/scripts/setup/build-out-capacity-design-dev.ps1— deletes the PSIDEMO orders, purges the legacy load, creates the 8 designed work centers + 9 machine centers with calendars through 2027-06-30, prints verification. (One command; the AI session cannot execute deletions itself.) - ⬜ After build-out: regenerate
PSI-BC/openapi/, calibrate capacities/efficiencies against the AFTEC per-machine numbers above, and take the open placement questions (SAW, PUNCH, prototype area, “cabinet welding” naming, inspection ops) to the Sikich mapping session.
